The most interesting and heart touching book, that I have ever read is, "TESS OF THE D'URBERVILLES" written by Thomas Hardy. As far as i'm concerned the above book is very important for those who studies English Literature as a subject . Infact Hardy added the epigraph 'a pure woman' to the title and showed the writers sympathy and affection were with his heroine. Although Tess, the protagonist is a fallen woman by victorian standards, Hardy, though his subtitle, insist that she is ✨️pure and virtuous✨️
🍂 Tess of the D'urbervilles has single floor sander and linear narrative that preserves the chronology of events. So I enjoyed reading this book and I chose this to continue writing my theses.
🍂 The setting of the action begins in the late 19th century in South Western England in the country of Wessex, the fictional name given by Hardy to Dorset. Tess leaves Marlott. latter the action shift to ship Brazil where Angel resides for some time. towards the end of the novel, the scene shifts to prehistoric Stonehenge in Wiltshire.
🍂It could be observed that there are so many motifs that had been used to bring out the idea of 'opposition or the tension between man-made laws and nature'. However I learned a plenty of useful philosophical aspects and the worst situations of a girl's life
Finally ,I got dozens of ideas about the fate, Sexual double standards in The Victorian Society, Deliberate ambiguity of the 'rape' and the restrictive morality enforced by the church as well⛪
The author of the novel - Tess of the d'urbervilles
🍂🍃" I feared long ago, when I struck him on the mouth with my glove, that I might do it someday for the trap he set for me in my simple youth"🍃🍂
(from a monologue of Tess)
Themes Of The Novel
🍂Love
🍂Male dominance and the disregard for women
🍂poverty and helplessness
🍂Irresponsible parenting
🍂Opposition or the tension between man - made laws and nature
🍂Fate and the realistic nature of love
